Furry Friday: Training the Kitten

Tuxedo kitten lounging in the grass

We have a relatively large, fenced backyard. Enough to keep those big beasts I call dogs in check. The cats have always had backyard privileges. It does take some training and supervision, but for the most part, it’s always been successful.

Where’s the kitten?

We’ll discuss Willow’s misadventures in leaving the yard in another post. But for this one, it’s about training Reggie for his backyard adventures.

The rules are simple. You have to come when called – sometimes, all I need is to see where you are. You CANNOT leave the backyard. And when I say it’s time to come in, you come in.

His new harness arrived, so we spent a great deal of time outside this week, working on training. It’s going take all summer for sure, but he’s getting the idea fairly quickly.

Bonus ducks because they haven’t made an appearance in a while.

Finally, here’s little kitten zen of Reggie running around the backyard:

It’s good for them and good for me, because it makes sure I spend some quiet time outside, drinking coffee, watching them play in the grass.
