I’m not sure any of the pups have actually played with that stuffed basketball I bought for a dollar at the thrift store, but they sure love it as a pillow
I believe I have finally broken Nora:
If you’ve followed my ducks’ adventures over the years, you know they are backyard ducks. Not livestock, but not really pets either. They lay eggs, eat bugs and generally make the backyard a better place. But ducks don’t necessarily like to be handled or messed. They are basically cats with feathers. Very independent.
I know folks make pets of them, but that wasn’t on my agenda. Until Nora became a widow. Suddenly the flock was down to one and I was not handling it well. She seems fine most of the time, but as the weather got colder and nights longer, I brought her in the house more and more. Just for short periods of time.
And then she didn’t mind being handled, she demanded morning pets when I let her out of the coop. When she was in the house, if I sat on the floor, she’d climb in my lap or sleep next to one of the dogs.
I’ve turned my backyard duck into a pet duck. Now, when she is stuck in the house when we have a cold snap, she has demands. One is, when she’s done swimming, she wants to be dried off. And another, instead of spending her time in the crate in the bathroom, she has to be in the living room with everyone.
I’ve broken her, that’s for sure. But at least I’ll know for her remaining time with us, she was happy.
Finally, for those who need an update on our foster puppy. She was successfully adopted after her week here. She has a lovely home with a dog sister. We are all very happy for her. I’m happy for a full night’s sleep.
Now, excuse me, I have to vacuum up feathers, again.
