The Writing Hour

Between traveling and Standard Time returning, my mornings have been early and the sunrises spectacular. This doesn’t even do it justice.

I use this time to write…

Happy Halloween

I set out whole pumpkins with the idea I’d gut them later for the dogs and leave the rest for the squirrels. The squirrels had other ideas and have literally “carved” my pumpkins into their own version of jack-o-lanterns. I’m thinking I’m going to add an eye to each side of their handiwork and really make it spooky.

With any luck, this time next year, we’ll have a short holiday Halloween themed book from a very spooky Duxbridge.

Caturday: Little Willow

Her favorite spot. She can keep an eye on her ducks this way. She loves to spend her mornings following me around the yard as I do my chores. The rest of the time, she joins the dogs and ducks in morning zoomies. Then it’s time to stalk squirrels before coming in for breakfast.

Tomatoes, Tomatoes, Tomatoes!

My tomatoes are finally ripening and it’s time to start thinking about freezing tomato puree.

But until then, fresh tomatoes on everything!

This is super simple. I pureed a tomato along with dried oregano and rosemary, powdered garlic, and bit of salt and pepper. I poured that over angel hair pasta* and then added chopped tomatoes and fresh basil. A little Parmesan/Romano cheese and dinner is ready.

*if you want to up your pasta game, use Durum Wheat Semolina pasta – that’s the only ingredient. Without all the additives, the taste is amazing.
