Furry Friday: Duck Booties

Nora did not win the genetic lottery, so she has some issues. Mostly, her right leg is not quite as strong as it could be, so she ends up dragging it a bit as she moves about the yard. This leads to issues with scabs developing on the bottom that get infected (for those in the know, it’s similar, but it’s not bumble foot).

Treatment has been hit-or-miss, so I finally gave in and purchased her a pair of booties—stylish booties. I mean, if you’re going to spend $30 on duck boots, make them cute. We’ll see how they work.

So far, she’s tolerating the single bootie well, and her scab is almost gone. A talented friend and I are discussing the idea of making her a softer one out of alpaca felt (that my friend made) to replace the neoprene, which I’m not sure about as a long term solution.

In other news, some of our favorite neighbors moved earlier in the summer to a farm. There was a knock on my door this week, and they stopped by to drop off some of their eggs. So kind. And how cute is that label?!

How are everyone’s critters this week?

  1. Meeca, the Balloon Juice rescue, continues to do well in her 6th year with me. This makes her 16 now, and she’s still is up for half hour walks a couple of times a day.
