In Memory of Those Who Served

Blooming Red Poppies

I have a small grouping of red poppies that never fail and bloom over Memorial Day weekend. This year, however, with Memorial Day being a bit early and days of nonstop rain, they just didn’t quite make it.

But they gave it a good try. Still beautiful in the rain.

I’ve been off the grid for a bit. Traveling and some big news I’ll share on Wednesday. We’ll get back to regular recipes and posts next week.

Until then, remember why today is important as you spend time with friends and family.

Furry Friday: New Friends

Tuxedo kitten playing with a baby squirrel

Reggie has made a new friend during his morning outside jaunts. It’s a baby squirrel who is as curious about Reggie as Reggie is about her.

They hang like this for long periods, chittering at each other.

On colder mornings, when Reggie is out and the squirrels have yet to emerge from their nests, he’ll sit at the bottom of the tree and call for her. Eventually, when she comes out, he is so excited to see her. Then they are back to hanging until it’s time for Reggie to come in for breakfast.

Monday Menu: Sausage and Grapes

This recipe was featured in TJ Wilde Mysteries: Underway, and I realized that because of the travel component in Full Sail, there will be no companion recipes. Too much going on for TJ to bother with cooking.

When I went to look for this recipe to share, I forgot this fun tidbit:

“It was so unusual, my most reliable recipe testers politely declined my dinner invite. Totally understandable. But I will tell you I was pleasantly surprised how well this turned out. If you like pork and apples, this has a similar flavor palate. It was also quick and easy to prepare. I’m glad I decided to experiment.”
