A few days a go, I was watering the new plantings and saw the most unusual bee over in the echinacea garden. From afar I thought it was a big bumble bee. Instead, it was actually this bee:
That’s a Red-Belted Bumble Bee. I had never seen anything like it before and did some research: Bombus Rufocinctus/Red-Belted Bumble Bee.
I didn’t have my phone handy, so was disappointed I wouldn’t get a photo. But wait!

Watering again this week, what did I spy? Another (or same?) industrious lady enjoying my flowers. Sigh. Still didn’t have my phone, but took a chance and ran to get it. Thankfully, I had enough flowers for her to take her time as she flitted between the Bee Balm, Echinacea and Black-Eyed Susans.
It’s about time for the hummingbirds to migrate through the area, so I’ll keep my phone handy while in the garden, just in case.
Reggie is having a teenager moment. In order to be outside, they have to stay inside the fenced yard. This look is clearly, “what, I’m still inside the yard.” He does know if he jumps over he’s grounded for the week. So far, the rebellion stops at the ledge.
The heat has clearly melted Trixie.
